What the RSI describes

The Relative Strength Index (RSI-14) measures the size of recent gains against recent losses over 14 bars, scaled to a 0-100 range. It describes how stretched a price move has been, not where the price is going next.

How to read RSI zones

As of 2026-08-14, AAPL shows RSI-14 at 44 (soft zone). Elevated readings near 70 describe a stretched advance; readings near 30 describe a stretched decline. RSI is a descriptive oscillator and can stay in a zone for extended periods.
